Conducting searches of real property online can provide valuable information on a piece of property. This information provided will include: the vendor and purchaser names, location of the property, document type and the registration date. The information contained on this database dates back to January 1, 1980.

There are three search options available:

Deeds Abbreviation Search

·        On the previous computer system (VAX system), Company names were abbreviated and stored in the Last Name and First Name fields. If you are conducting a search which involves a Company, you must find the abbreviation information before you can conduct your search using either Basic or Advanced Search.

Deeds Basic Search

·        Search the Registry of Deeds using a standard set of the most common fields. This is the suggested search screen for new users.

Advanced Deeds Search

·        Perform more complex searches using a combination of fields. The user will have access to more fields than the Basic Search and will be able to create their own search string. Because of its complexities, this screen should only be used by experienced users.

PLEASE NOTE:

·        Hints are provided on each search screen. Prior to conducting a search using any of the three options above, users are advised to review the hints. Though easy to use, there are a lot of idiosyncrasies the user needs to be aware of.

·        Staff are available during business hours to instruct clients on searching title using the paper and electronic index. Staff cannot perform the searches for clients. Because searching title in Newfoundland and Labrador can be complex, clients are encouraged to seek the assistance of a professional search firm or lawyer.
